How to choose an AI voice agent in Malaysia: eight questions to ask
Every vendor says its voice agent sounds natural. The way to find out which one does is to call it, in the way your customers talk, and check eight things.
1. Does it sound Malaysian, and can it follow how people talk here?
Ask for a live number you can ring, not a recording. Speak the way your customers do: Malay with English words in it, a place name, a surname that is not English. A demo that works only on a clean English script tells you little. Listen to how it pronounces road names and your products; a good setup lets you correct pronunciation once so it stays fixed.
2. How long does it take to reply?
A pause of more than about a second after you finish speaking feels like a dropped call. Ring three times and count. Also check what happens when you interrupt it: it should stop and listen.
3. What happens when it does not know?
Ask something outside what the business told it. The right behaviour is to say so and offer to pass the call or take a message. Watch out for confident, wrong answers about price, opening hours or policy.
4. Can it do something, not only talk?
Answering questions is the easy part. Ask whether it can check a slot and book it, take an order, log a complaint with a reference number, or send a payment link by message during the call. The value for a business is in the action.
5. How does handover to a person work?
Ask to speak to a human and see what follows. Does the call transfer, or does it take a message? Does your staff member see what was said? Handover that loses the context makes the caller repeat everything.
6. What does a minute cost, in ringgit?
Ask for a price per minute or an allowance per month in RM, and ask what counts as a minute: only the conversation, or the ring time and the waiting too. Check that inbound and outbound calls are priced the same way, and what happens when you run past your allowance. Floee publishes its plans on the pricing page.
7. What is recorded, where is it kept and for how long?
Calls are personal data. Ask whether the caller is told that an AI is answering and that the call is recorded, where recordings and transcripts are stored, and how a customer's data is deleted on request. Do not accept "it is secure" as an answer; ask for the specifics. Floee's data is hosted in the Asia-Pacific region (Singapore); Malaysian hosting is on the roadmap.
8. Can you try it on your own business before you commit?
Give the vendor ten real questions from your own call log and listen to the result. A free trial or a free tier with your own information in it is worth more than any demo. Floee's free plan lets you test a website chatbot with your own information before you decide on voice.
